ABOUT US
Language Connect is a private paediatric Speech Pathology practice originally set up in 1982 by Anne Bovey. The majority of work then was with speech and language impaired children who were referred for assessment and treatment by local doctors. The practice grew steadily, however with demand growing for Speech Pathology services in private schools during the 1990's, the practice changed focus, and therapy sessions also commenced in some local schools.
In 2005, Kate (Anne's daughter) decided to join the practice after having graduated from Queensland University. The practice expanded further as more schools employed us to work with their students. The business has continued to grow and there are presently 5 therapists working in both selected school settings as well as at our Clinic Base in Capalaba.
OUR SERVICES
Currently, our Capalaba clinics are growing rapidly. These clinic sessions cater for after school clients who require ongoing speech and language therapy support. Therapists and Aides also work together with younger children and their parents in earlier time slots. Some clients require and receive individual treatment. Usually this is for younger children, and the parents of these children are encouraged to work with the therapist during these sessions. Some articulation correction therapy is also best treated in individual sessions.
The basic work ethic is to provide a dynamic program for each child to work with. In introducing the children to group sessions, we aim to work in a holistic manner in order to treat the language or speech difficulties. We have a wide range of therapy resources to work with and we focus on:
-
Developing social skills and appropriate social language within the group
-
Developing focus and attention strategies for coping with surrounding noise and movement
-
Developing phonemic awareness skills
-
Providing support for emerging literacy development
-
Working extensively at the different levels of receptive and expressive language
